On August 13, 2009, Marie West Keller Scholarship Fund Executor Jeffrey Markello presented a check in the amount of $3,373,667.38 to East Aurora High School Principal James Hoagland, School Superintendent James Bodziak and Board of Education President Dan Brunson.
Following the presentation, they met with other members of a District steering committee to discuss how best to honor the will of local businessman Edward Keller, who bequeathed the funds in honor of his wife Marie. Mrs. Keller was a teacher in East Aurora schools for forty-one years, and a member of the Board of Education following her retirement in 1971.
Mr. Keller made his bequest to the District’s children because, although they had no children of their own, the couple served the community’s children in many ways throughout their lives, always willing to share their knowledge and resources, After a 61-year marriage, Marie Keller died in 1998, and Edward followed in 2006. Through Mr. Keller’s last request, the couple will continue to positively impact the town’s youth.
