Former East Aurora resident and current Dean of Education at Lynn University in Boca Raton Florida Patrick Hartwick is one of the missing in Haiti. An Earthquake that measured 7.0 on the Richter scale and was followed by two severe aftershocks of 5.9 and 5.5 magnitudes has devastated the area surrounding the capital city of Port-Au-Prince.
Hartwick received his BS and MS at UB and is Ed.d at West Virginia University. In Buffalo he worked at both SUNY Geneseo and Daemen College.
Hartwick was in Haiti along with faculty member Richard Bruno MD and eight students as part of the Journey of Hope-Haiti. The group was there doing community service in one of the poorest nations in the hemisphere. It was to be a semester long endeavor.
He was believed to be staying at the Hotel Montana. It is further believed that Professor Hartwick and Dr. Bruno were in the fitness center when the hotel collapsed. The students were thought to be in their hotel rooms on the first and second floors during the collapse.
