Senate Democrats Reject Governor's Park Closings

By EAST AURORA EDITOR  (3/22/2010 8:29:27 PM)

New York State Senate Democrats have put forth their own state budget plan which is drastically different than the one sent to the senate from the Democratic Govenor David Patterson.

The plan calls for no park closings.

In addition the plan calls for the legalization of Marijuana for medicinal purposes which they project would garner over $100 million dollars in new revenue for the state.

They also removed Patterson's new taxes on wine, cigarettes and soda which would have generated close to $1 billion dollars in new revenue.

Overall the budget would increase to $136.2 billion dollars.

Aid to schools would be cut by $1.4 million dollars and their would be a push for collecting more money from the sale of cigarettes by Indian retailers.
