Brighton New York residents will be coming up to Rochester on August 16th to experience a bygone era. The Brighton recreation department is sponsoring the trip which departs from 2300 Elmwood at 8:15 AM and returns at 7:30PM.
Brighton is just south of Rochester and was inhabited earlier than East Aurora.
Brighton's first residents were native Americans, members of the Seneca tribe of the Iroquois confederacy. Their trails crossed the Genesee country, connecting Lake Ontario with the Genesee River. Settlers coming to the area after the Revolutionary War used these same trails to search out land for purchase.
The tourists will visit the Millard Fillmore home, shop at Vidler's, see a cabaret show at the Roycroft, do some shopping at upper Main, and soak in all that East Aurora has to offer.
I still believe that East Aurora's true opportunity to thrive is in the tourism industry. Enough of the new over sized drug stores and over sized gas/convenience stores. Let's promote what we have and offer it as an alternative to the norm.
